The face of journalism
As I find myself nearing the end of my college education, I realize I am scared. Scared that I won’t find a job in magazine. Scared that I’ll be stuck at Jewel’s floral department (which I have been for the last 5 years). Scared that the only way to get in the door is as an unpaid intern. I, like many many other students, have loans piling up. Let’s face it, Columbia isn’t cheap, even though they claim to be the cheapest private school. While that may all be true, it’s still expensive.
With the economy being what it is now- lay-offs and pay cuts are what’s happening- how can I expect to find a job? Well when I talked to my dad about my dilemma, he simply said, “You can do it. Don’t worry.” So how can I be a little optomistic? With technology of course! People are still going to need their news and entertainment. They’re just looking for a more effecient way of reaching it. That’s why more people are relying on the Internet for their daily doses of news, gossip and what-have-yous. Even though magazines and newspapers seem a thing in the past, we have the Internet. Things that were hard now seem easier because of the Internet. People can access it whereever they are. Cell phones are pratically attached to everyone’s hip. Even kinds have ccell phones (don’t get me started on eeing little Johnny whose 4 with a cell).
Though I’m still scared and a little nervous come graduation time, I know that with everything going digital, things will pan themselves out somehow. After all, we are all digital natives, right?
